Chicago (July 7-18): All we know about this workshop so far are the dates. Its
being hosted by Links Hall, and eventually their info can be found
here: http://www.linkshall.org/
St. Catherines, Ontario (Niagra-on-the Lake July 7-19): We only know dates at this point. More info from the host
company can eventually be found here under "Professional Development": http://www.lyndesfarne.com/node/5
NYC (~Aug 18-29):
SITI Company's annual two-week advanced class in Suzuki and Viewpoints
led by Kelly Maurer and Akiko Aizawa. Other details TBA.
Most
of these shorter summer workshops are hosted by various partners who
determine the costs and application processes. The websites above are
probably the most direct resource, but we also add info here as we get
it.
Thanks for the reminder. Can you tell me when SITI is showing the latest work they have been working on (Saltwater???). I think performances are in January.
Just wondering if the May thru July schedule for the summer training intensive at Saratoga is how it will be set for the years to come? I've been wait-listed for the summer training for the past couple years and was unable to apply again this year because of my grad school schedule. Not giving up yet (or ever!) but just wanted to get a handle on when I might be available to apply in the future.
Unfortunately our schedule year to year is never set per say following the similar pattern to where the training feel the year prior. This summer we are also hosting a two week intensive at Columbia University in the middle of July. It is a more accelerated program and if your resume and experience reflect enough experience, then I would definitely apply if that works for your schedule. The Skidmore program usually occur immediately after Memorial Day but this year it is a week later since Memorial Day is earlier than normal. Also, if you haven't already, please visit our website to sign up for our e-mail newsletters which will tell you where and when we are offering training and/or performances.
Will you have night training courses or drop-in courses that you had in the past? If not could you recommend any group that does Suzuki training on a regular basis?
At the moment we do not have Drop-In classes mostly due to the fact that the Company is on tour at the moment and we don't have the teachers to staff such classes. There have been groups that have formed shortly after a SITI Training session who have trained on a regular basis. Perhaps if one of those groups is still training, you could join in.
In reply to your post I started a free drop in group in mid-Manhattan but due to lack of interest and too many no shows we've been on a bit of a break. Please contact me if you are interested and lets see if we can shake these people up. (PS -- the downside is that I don't have a lot of experience but I make up for it in effort AND we do have members who have quite a bit of experience who I try to get to lead as much as possible)
We are not having a training in LA this summer, but if want to check out upcoming training opportunities (like our Columbia summer intensive), please check out siti.org/training. Also, SITI will be at the the Getty Villa in Malibu with a workshop production of Antigone in May (http://www.getty.edu/visit/events/theater_lab.html#antigone).
My company The Anthropologists has regular training sessions called jam sessions. We meet for three hours at a time to train, work, experiment, play, etc. without the pressures of rehearsal and performance. We are a movement-based company and our work is influenced by Viewpoints, Biomechanics, Laban as well as the choreographers Liz Lerman and Doug Varone. You can find more info at: http://www.theanthropologists.org/Jam_Sessions/Jam_Sessions.html.
Our next one is scheduled for November 22. We are open to all performing artists and while we are not completely free, we only ask for a small donation to help cover space rental costs.
If you want more info or would like to attend, please email me at melissa@theanthropologists.org.
